Council Meetings

Meetings of the full Hexham Town Council

Hexham Town Council meets monthly. Normally full Council meetings are held on the first Monday of every month, starting at 6.45pm in the Conference Room of Dene Park House, Corbridge Road, Hexham.  To see the agendas for forthcoming Council meetings,  follow this link.

In 2017 the full Council will meet on the following dates:

9th January 6th February 6th March
3rd April 15th May (AGM) 5th June
3rd July 7th August 4th September
2nd October 6th November 4th December

The Annual Town Meeting was held on 15th May 2017.

Town Council meetings are open to the public. There is a regular item –  usually at the very start of the meeting – when members of the public can raise issues which they think are important in the town and concern a significant group of people.

The Hexham Town Mayor chairs full Council meetings and meetings proceed with an interesting and necessary degree of formality – necessary to ensure that the views of all councillors are heard and respected.

The minutes of all Council meetings are available in the Council Archive.

Meetings of Council Committees

The Town Council conducts a lot of its practical business and discussion in four committees:

  • Finance and General Purposes Committee
  • Planning and Infrastructure Committee
  • Town Plan and Neighbourhood Plan Committees
  • Community Engagement Committee.

Meetings of these committees are open to the public. They are normally held in the Council Office,  in the main building of the Cemetery,  in the evening. Committee agendas for meetings planned in the near future are advertised on the Council website.

The Town Council has also a number of sub-committees and working groups,  notably for Remembrance and Armed Forces Days. Included also are the working groups developing the main sections of the Hexham Town Plan 2014-15 and its Vision 2020.  In these,  town councillors work in partnership with representatives of other organisations in the town for the benefit of residents. Follow the link to Council Projects for more information on this.

Annual Town meeting

An Annual Town Meeting is held in Hexham every year in May unless an election year dictates otherwise. In 2017 this will be held on Monday 15th May.  A Town Meeting is for Hexham residents and at that meeting any matter of concern or interest which relates primarily to Hexham can be raised for discussion.
