Day Advisory Committee, to be held in the Council Office, St. Andrews Cemetery,
West Road, Hexham at 2.30pm on Monday 8th May 2006 when the
following items will be discussed:-

on the 30th January 2006 [Circulated to full Council on 6th
March 2006].
3. Matters arising [if any].
4. Remembrance Day 2006 – updates.
5. Date and time for next meeting.

MINUTES OF THE TOWN COUNCIL REMEMBRANCE DAY ADVISORY
COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON THE 30th JANUARY 2006
- PRESENT. Councillor M. Way in the Chair, Cllrs B
Pickering the Town Mayor, J B Jonas the Deputy Town Mayor, N Wicks, J M
Lambert, T Robson and Mrs I C Whale together with Messrs Rev J. E. Linton,
A. Ash, F J Newby, K W Dodd, G Robinson, T Gillanders and S Batey.
- FERGUS MACKENZIE. The Chairman referred to the
recent death of Committee member Fergus Mackenzie and recalled how he had
served on the committee since its inception and before that for many years
had served the Royal British Legion as Poppy Appeal organiser in Hexham.
Everyone who knew him would miss him.
- APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE were given on behalf of P
Clark. It was also noted Syd Teasdale had had to resign because of ill
health. It was AGREED a letter of thanks for his service to the committee
should be sent.
- MINUTES. It was AGREED to receive the minutes of
the Committee meeting held on the 5th September 2005, presented
to Council on 3rd October 2005.
- MATTERS ARISING - There were no matters arising.
- DIARY DATES. There are a number of events during
2006 and listed below, which it is hoped Committee members and Councillors
will be able to attend.
- Battle of Britain Day – 14th
September 2006. A wreath laying ceremony in Hexham Abbey at the RAF
Memorial window at 11.30am.
- Battle of Britain Sunday – Act of Remembrance,
War Memorial, Beaumont Street, Hexham on Sunday 17th September
2006 at 11.40am. [Poppy wreath to provided by HTC and laid by the Mayor].
- The laying of Poppy Crosses on War Graves at
Hexham Cemetery, West Road, Hexham on Saturday 11th November
2006 from 10.45am. [Tea and coffee to be available afterward at the
Cemetery].
- Act of Remembrance and laying of Poppy wreath at
War Memorial at Hexham Hospital Chapel on Saturday 11th
November 2006 at approx. 11.45am. [This event follows immediately after
the preceding event at the Cemetery]. [Poppy wreath provided by HTC, to
be laid by the Mayor].
- Remembrance Day – Sunday 12th
November 2006. Details will be circulated to all Committee members and to
Councillors in due course.
- REMEMBRANCE DAY 2005.
- The Clerk read letters from the Brampton Band
and the OIC 39 Regiment RA, both expressing their appreciation of the
event and both looking forward to the 2006 ceremony.
- Last Post. The buglers for this had been
provided by an ATC cadet and by the Band. The Clerk regretted a breakdown
in his understanding of the Bugler chosen and it was AGREED in future the
ATC cadet should be asked to play with the Band acting as back up in the
event of any problem.
- 2005 and 2006 EVENTS. The following details were
considered and AGREED should be followed in 2006.
- The National Anthem verses should be printed
within the programme.
- There needs to be at least three Parade Marshals
in the Park.
- Six programme distributors are needed.
- Tynedale Council Public Relations will be asked
to provide TV and Press contacts.
- The local Fire Brigade to be asked to attend.
- The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will contact the
Abbey to clarify seating arrangements for VIP’s, Councillors and Army
personnel.
- A theme for 2006 is needed, committee members
are asked to consider this, and this will be an agenda item for the next
meeting.
- It was AGREED that Beaumont Street must be
closed during the event. After noting the need to have road closure
orders, the Police being unable to assist any longer due to changed
legislation, it was AGREED

Tynedale Council is
asked to quote for the closure of Beaumont Street and the Market Place.
ii.
It was noted the Clerk
had written to P Atkinson M.P. asking him to take up the problems of parades
and policing. A reply is awaited.
- It was AGREED the next meeting would be on 24th
April 2006 at 2.30pm. Cllr Mrs I C Whale gave her apologies, as she would
be away on that date.
