MINUTES OF THE TOWN COUNCIL PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON 5
JUNE 2006
172. PRESENT: Councillor J B Jonas, Deputy Town Mayor in the Chair together with Councillors B Pickering, the Town Mayor, M F C Donnelly, G C Ferguson, H J C Herron, D Kennedy and T Robson.
173. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. Councillor J B Jonas was elected Committee Chairman for the year 2006/07.
174. APOLOGIES & CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS. The Chairman welcomed Councillor D Kennedy to the Planning Committee and the Committee noted Councillor J V R Hare was no longer able to serve on the Planning Committee as he was now a member of Tynedale District Council Planning Committee. Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Mrs J C Robinson and N Wicks.
175. MINUTES. It was AGREED that the Minutes of the meeting held on 8 May 2006 having been circulated, be signed as a true record.
176. MATTERS ARISING. There were no matters arising.
177. DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST. The temporary clerk declared a personal interest in applications 20060690 and 20060682 having written letters of objection and left the meeting when these applications were discussed.
178. PLANNING APPLICATIONS. It was AGREED planning applications in accordance with the lists circulated should be supported apart from:
a. 20060690 & 20060682 Demolition of existing dwelling and construction of two and three storey development comprising 8 No. new build apartments off Leazes Lane. It was AGREED a strong objection be lodged on the grounds of over-development of the site which would also lead to overlooking of existing properties.
b. 20060610. Demolition of West End Garage to build thirteen flats. There was concern over privacy with the number of windows proposed but there was no objection to the proposal for development of the site.
179. THERE being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting. The next meeting of the Planning Committee will be held on Monday 10 July 2006.
