Allotments

On 1 April 2010 the Allotments Waiting list reopened and you can download an application form to be added to the Waiting list. Click here

The Council has three allotment sites, one at Quatre Bras (near the Broadway) one at Dene Park (rear of Monk’s Terrace) and one at Wydon Park (south of Wydon reservoir). Some plots at Quatre Bras have been halved recently as the normal size plot proved too large for some people to keep under cultivation. When you put your name on the waiting list you have the choice of a whole plot or a half size one.

Allotment cultivation seems to be a very popular pastime today and there is strong demand for allotments so unfortunately the Council currently has a very long waiting list.

Tenancies are yearly and commence on the 1st October. The rental payable on that date, in 2009, is £50.00 for the year to 30 September 2010. A half size plot is £25 for the same period. Allotment rents are reviewed by the Council annually and any changes take effect on the tenancy anniversary date.

Allotment Associations. There is a Tenants Allotment Association on two of the sites but of course membership is voluntary. The Associations mainly help in crop matters and by finding reduced prices for seeds etc.

The Quatre Bras association is contacted by writing to

The Dene Park Association is contacted by writing to

The Council has set up a Working Group of Councillors and Lay persons in order to improve liaison between the Council and its allotment tenants. This Group meets as and when it wishes to but usually at least twice yearly. It can consider any subject that relates to the allotment sites and then makes its recommendations to the Council.

It has discussed and made recommendations about rentals, the allotment budget, and collection and recycling of compost etc.
If you wish the Working group to consider anything at all relating to your allotment then please contact any of the current Allotment Tenants Association representatives and they will be happy to bring your views to the attention of the Working Group.

For the Dene Park allotment site:- John R Outhwaite, 31 Bywell Avenue.
For the Quatre Bras allotment site:- Richard Litson, 12 Millfield Terrace, Hexham, NE46 3EF .
If you are not a member of either allotment association then Peter Oliver, 20 Dotland Close represents those tenants who are not allotment tenants association members.

If you have anything you wish to have dealt with urgently you just have to contact the Cemetery Manager David Boaden who has day to day responsibility for the allotment sites. He can be contacted on 01434609575 or 07710053732.

You can write at any time to Hexham Town Council, Council Office, St Andrews Cemetery, West Road Hexham NE46 3RR.
