Allotments

Due to a long waiting list it has been necessary to close the list until 1 April 2010. No applications should be made before this date.

May 2008

The Council owns one allotment site at Quatre Bras, an area to the east of the Broadway in the west end of the town. There is another very small site to the west of Monks Terrace in the east end of the town which the Council leases from Northumberland County Council. Some plots at Quatre Bras have been halved recently as the normal size plot proved too large for some people to keep under cultivation. When you put your name on the waiting list you have the choice of a whole plot or a half size one.

Allotment cultivation seems to be a very popular pastime today and there is strong demand for allotments so unfortunately the Council currently has a very long waiting list. If you want to have an allotment you must apply as soon you can so your name can be added to the waiting list. The application form below can be downloaded but it MUST be returned to the Council BY POST as recording the received applications is a paper based procedure.

Tenancies are yearly and commence on the 1st October. The rental payable on that date, in 2007, is £44.00 for the year to September 2008. Allotment rents are reviewed by the Council annually and any changes take effect on the tenancy anniversary date.

The Council this year is hoping to add to as many plots as possible a place for the storage of manure/compost and finance has been set aside for this work.

Allotment Associations. There is a Tenants Allotment Association on both sites but of course membership is voluntary. The Associations mainly help in crop matters and by finding reduced prices for seeds etc.
