Cemetery History

This page will record the history of the cemetery and will be of interest to many people from outside of the area who are tracing their ancestors. Burial records are a significant part of the genealogy process and the Council has had the foresight to have had the cemetery burial records digitised. It is proposed that these records are made available online at a later date. The Council wishes to recoup their investment in digitising the records and to generate a small revenue stream through sales of the records through the web site. This will require additional work at a later stage, but we would propose that the first phase of the web site development includes a searchable version of the database so that enquirers can determine that there are records relevant to their research. They would not be able to access burial information in any detail. This would firstly excite some interest amongst genealogist and secondly allow the Council to gauge the amount of interest and assess the commercial value of pursuing the full database project.
