Speaking at Public Meetings

You can now join in Council meetings at Hexham. At the start to each monthly meeting there will be a period set aside so any resident can come and speak to the Council. The Policy on public participation is below, so come along if you there is something you want to say.

Check out this web page for the date of the next meeting.

Policy of the Town Council for Public Participation

The council has agreed that monthly council meetings will have time set aside to allow residents to raise any matters concerning them and that relate to Hexham.

Any person wishing to raise a matter should approach the mayor [as chairman of the meeting] at least five minutes before the start of the meeting indicating he/she wishes to speak.

The mayor may rule a matter cannot be raised if he considers it is not relevant to Hexham. In that event the mayor will advise which authority or organisation will be able to deal with the matter.

Ten minutes is set aside in the agenda for public participation and so a time limit on speaking will be set. You should start your speech by stating your name and address.
Alternatively if you just wish to ask a question of the council or a councillor then please write or email your question [at any time] to clerk@hexhamtowncouncil.gov.uk and a reply will be sent to you.
