In the light of fast-moving developments on the coronavirus situation Hexham Town Council has looked at future planned events and how it can continue to provide an appropriate level of service to town residents. In following Public Health England and Government guidance it has already decided to postpone the Mayor’s Spring Reception on 25 March where the annual Steward and Bailiff award was to be made, together with the new Mayor’s Environmental Award. The Annual Town Meeting on 23 April will also be postponed. The Council will continue to hold its own meetings as necessary but will take account of any future Government guidance on best practice.
Looking ahead and seeking to be prepared to deal with the situation as it develops, the Council is planning that its staff will be available to coordinate contact between volunteers and vulnerable residents who, in due course, may be advised to stay at home but who need food shopping, prescriptions, toiletries, dog walking, etc. In anticipation of this residents are asked to contact the Council if they are willing to volunteer to be part of this network by emailing clerk@hexhamtowncouncil.gov.uk , by ringing the Council on 01434 609575 or by contacting their town/county councillor. Further information will be posted on the Council’s website www.hexhamtowncouncil.gov.uk
