What is Grow Hexham? Grow Hexham is a Town Council project initiated by Councillor Penny Grennan focused on increasing the amount of food grown locally. Working towards the Town Council’s net-zero target, she originally crowd-funded to set up a garden sharing scheme, with the idea that people waiting for an allotment could take on unused space in other people’s gardens. The project has now expanded with additional National Lottery funding and encompasses a thriving tool share & repair shed (based at Quatre Bras allotments), and the community greenhouse at Hexham Cemetery. Grow Hexham also runs regular free growing & gardening workshops and events, and assists in the running of Hexham Community Garden on the old middle school site. Grow Hexham encourages all growers to donate surplus produce to Hexham Community Grocery, making locally grown food more accessible to everyone in our town.
