Services
Armed Forces Day
The Council has a Community Engagement Committee and every two years organises an Armed Forces Day event. In 2018 this included a military parade, a display of military vehicles and equipment, classic cars, stalls, a service arranged by Hexham Abbey, musical entertainment at the bandstand, a climbing wall, a balloon entertainer, face painting and a Dakota flypast.
Christmas Lights
Every year the Council coordinates the tree kindly donated by Egger, pays for the lights, and arranges the Christmas lights switch-on event.
Litter Bins
The County Council is responsible for emptying litter bins but the Town Council provides any new or replacement bins required in Hexham (except for those in the parks belonging to the County Council).
Maintenance in Hexham
Town Council staff plant many of the displays in Hexham’s hanging baskets, tubs and flowerbeds and also cut some of the grass verges in the west of the town.
Play Areas
The Council owns and maintains 8 play areas (Bell Terrace, Broadway, Dene Park, two at Park Well on Corbridge Road, Priestlands Dene, The Sele and Tyne Green), the skatepark (at the Sele) and the outdoor gym equipment (at Tyne Green).
Town Plan
In 2013 the Council formed a Town Plan Committee and there have been three associated Working Groups (Built Environment and Transport; Economy, Heritage and Tourism; and Health, Wellbeing and Leisure) who completed a Town Plan and draft Hexham Vision 2020.
