Services

Christmas Lights

Every year the Council coordinates the tree kindly donated by Egger, pays for the lights, and arranges the Christmas lights switch-on event.

Honorary Steward and Bailiff of Hexham

The Town Council created the above title in 2001 and every year it is awarded to a local resident for outstanding service to Hexham. Further information and a list of the Stewards and Bailiffs is available here.

Litter Bins

The County Council is responsible for emptying litter bins but the Town Council provides any new or replacement bins required in Hexham (except for those in the parks belonging to the County Council).

Maintenance in Hexham

Town Council staff plant many of the displays in Hexham’s hanging baskets, tubs and flowerbeds and also cut some of the grass verges in the west of the town.

Play Areas

The Council owns and maintains 8 play areas (Bell Terrace, Broadway, Dene Park, two at Park Well on Corbridge Road, Priestlands Dene, The Sele and Tyne Green), the skatepark (at the Sele) and the outdoor gym equipment (at Tyne Green).

Town Plan

In 2013 the Council formed a Town Plan Committee and there have been three associated Working Groups (Built Environment and Transport; Economy, Heritage and Tourism; and Health, Wellbeing and Leisure) who completed a Town Plan and draft Hexham Vision 2020. Please see the Town Plan Progress Report for further information. In February 2022 it was agreed the Committee was no longer required as the aims of the Town Plan had either been achieved or are now being worked on by other Committees as part of the Action Plan 2021-2025. The valuable work towards the Town Plan and its content mean that it will continue to be used for reference.
