The Bandstand Sessions in the Sele Hexham have been hailed a great success!
The new Town Council funded the sessions with its partner Core Music organising the performers.
Mayor Derek Kennedy said “Over 200 people have regularly attended bringing picnics or food from local takeaways to enjoy the free live music. It’s been fabulous to bring people together again after a year of Lockdown. This was one of the main objectives of the new Town Council to be community focused and bring life into the town centre. We hope to continue the Sessions next year and make it bigger and better.
Councillor Penny Grennan who has played a key role in the organising said “We wanted to see public spaces such as the Bandstand used for pleasure and bringing people together. As a musician myself and having played with my band The Cherry Pickers it was great to get back on stage and perform to a live appreciative audience.”
The Bandstand Sessions had their first event on 22 July with The Often Herd opening it all up. Bands have played every Thursday evening and Sunday lunchtime since then and the Sessions will end in mid September. The lineup for the rest of August can be found here.
